In the previous article, we mainly introduced the raw material of medical disposable consumables - medical non-woven fabrics. In this article, we mainly introduce the production process, classification, and application of non-woven fabrics, so that we can better understand the raw materials of our products, to fundamentally better control the quality of products.
What Is Non-woven?
Non-woven fabrics, also known as non-woven cloths. It is bonded directly by directional or random fibers through physical or chemical methods. The material is a new generation of environmental protection material, which has the characteristics of moisture-proof, breathability, flexibility, lightweight, no combustion, easy decomposition, non-toxic and non-irritating, rich color, low price, recyclable and so on. Because it has the appearance of the cloth and some properties of the cloth, it is called the cloth.
Classification of Non-woven Fabrics-According To The Production Process
It sprays a high-pressure fine water stream onto one or more layers of a fiber web to entangle the fibers with each other, thereby reinforcing the web with a certain strength.
•Flexible entanglement does not affect the original characteristics of the fiber and does not damage the fiber.
•The appearance is closer to traditional textiles.

Applications: Medical curtains, surgical gowns, surgical drapes, medical dressing materials, wound dressings, medical gauze, aviation rags, clothing lining fabrics, coated base fabrics, advanced rags in the electronics industry, cotton pads, wet wipes, a mask covering materials, etc.
2.Heat Sealing Non-woven
It refers to adding fibrous or powdery hot-melt bonding reinforcing material to the fiber web, and the fiber web is further fused and cooled to form a cloth.
•Surface bonding hot rolled surface is more smooth.
•Point bonded hot rolling is relatively fluffy.
Application：Baby diapers and feminine napkin covering materials, ointment base fabrics, clothing linings, masks, etc.
3.Pulp Airlaid Non-woven
Air-laid non-woven fabric, also known as dust-free paper or dry papermaking non-woven fabric. It uses the air-laid technology to open the wood pulp fiberboard into a single fiber state, and then uses a gas flow method to agglomerate the fibers on the mesh curtain, and the fiber web is further reinforced into a cloth.
•The fluffy degree is good.
•Soft to the touch
•Super hygroscopic performance
Application: Medical hygienic materials, especially high-absorbency disposable hygiene products (such as diapers, sanitary napkins, wet wipes, wipes, etc.).
4.Wet Non-woven Fabric
It is to open the fiber raw material placed in the water medium into a single fiber, and at the same time mix different fiber raw materials to prepare a fiber suspension slurry. The suspended slurry is then transferred to a web forming mechanism, and the fibers Characteristic：
•The production speed is high and can reach 400m/min.
•You can make full use of short fibers.
•The product fiber network has good uniformity.
•High water consumption and high one-off investment
•Special paper: dust/liquid filter paper, tea bag.
•Industrial: filters, insulation materials, sound-absorbing materials.
•Medical use: medical backing, medical tape, surgical drape pack wrapping materials.
•Civil: wallpaper, etc.
The polymer is first extruded and drawn to form continuous filaments which are laid into a fiber network. The fiber network is then subjected to self-bonding, thermal bonding, chemical bonding or mechanical reinforcement to transform the fiber network into a non-woven fabric.
•The fiber network consists of continuous filaments
•Good tensile strength
•There are many changes in the process, which can be strengthened by many methods.
•The filament has a wide range of fineness.
•Polypropylene (PP): geotextile, tufted carpet base fabric, coated base fabric, medical materials, coating materials for disposable products.
•Polyester (PET): filter material, lining material, tufted carpet base fabric, agricultural materials, packaging materials, etc.
The process of melt-blown non-woven fabric: polymer feeding---melt extrusion---fiber formation---fiber cooling---forming into the net---reinforcing into cloth.
•The fiber network consists of very thin, shorter fibers.
•The fiber network has good uniformity and soft hand feel
•Good filtration performance and liquid absorption performance.
•Poor fiber strength
Application: Filter materials, medical materials, clothing materials, battery separator materials, wiping materials.
7. Needle Punched Nonwoven
Needle-punched nonwoven fabric is a type of dry-laid nonwoven fabric. It uses a puncture of a needle to reinforce the fluffy web into a cloth.
•Flexible entanglement between fibers for better dimensional stability and flexibility
•Good permeability and filtration performance.
•The hand feel is full and fluffy.
•It can produce various collection patterns or three-dimensional molding products according to requirements.。
The stitch-bonded nonwoven fabric is a type of dry nonwoven fabric. The stitching method is to use a warp knitted coil structure to reinforce a web, a yarn layer, a non-woven material (e.g., a plastic sheet, a plastic thin metal foil, etc.) or a combination thereof to form a nonwoven fabric.
Mainly used in the production of medical and health materials to achieve a better feel and not to scratch the skin. For example, medical bed sheets, sanitary napkins, and sanitary gaskets are using hydrophilic functions of hydrophilic nonwoven fabrics.
